Steel Wheels

Easter Sunday for me is a day to do pretty much nothing.  So I am taking advantage of the downtime after breakfast to share with you a very different looking bike that Marie found for me online the other day.

At first glance, you’re not quite sure what you’re looking at.  Upon closer inspection, your eyes confirm that you did not mis-see at all.  You are indeed looking at a bike with very unconventional wheels.

Quite remarkable, and totally breathtaking.

Made from sprung steel, the wheels are a little larger than the typical 700c that we’re used to.  Riders have commented that it is a surprisingly smooth ride, and in fact the faster you go, the smoother it becomes.  The really fun part is that if you happen to be  a guest at the W Hotel in Leicester Square (London) between now and October 29 you can ride this marvel – for free!

Check it out by clicking here.  If you want to watch a short video of the bike in action, then click the link below.

Have fun!

That’ s a pretty cool art bike. I’ll bet it has terrible traction, though. I notice the video doesn’t show much in the line of turning.

I shudder to think what it must be like to go around a corner with any kind of speed. I can feel the front wheel slipping away from me as I imagine this. A fairly obvious flaw in the design!
